PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, 18 September 2024 – The Palawan National School (PNS) proudly congratulates Melanie Galocgoc, a student from the TVL Department, for winning Champion in the Tourism Skills Cooking Contest – Open Division, held at the New Green City Hall. Her victory secured her the honor of representing Puerto Princesa City in the upcoming Regional Level of the TESDA Skills Competition.

PNS acknowledges the exceptional talent and dedication of Melanie Galocgoc, who demonstrated her outstanding culinary skills despite challenging conditions. Participants were tasked with preparing several complex dishes, including Main Course Mystery Fish, Cream of Vegetable Soup, and a Chicken Main Course, all while battling strong winds and unfavorable weather.

Ma’am Irene Carreon, a dedicated teacher from the TVL and HE-Cooker Department, served as Melanie’s coach and mentor throughout the competition. Her expertise and support were critical in Melanie’s preparation and ultimate success.

“We are immensely proud of Melanie’s achievement and her representation of Palawan National School at this prestigious competition. Her hard work, passion for culinary arts, and the excellent guidance provided by Ma’am Irene Carreon have brought honor to our school and community,” said Sir Jabel Anthony L. Nunala, PhD, School Principal IV of PNS.

The Tourism Skills Cooking Contest forms part of the Tourism Skills Competition, an event that highlights the talents and skills of students in the tourism and hospitality sectors. Melanie’s victory not only underscores the high standards upheld by the PNS TVL Department but also reflects the school’s commitment to fostering excellence in Technical-Vocational Education.

The event, organized in collaboration with TESDA Palawan and supported by Solane LPG, provided all participants with valuable industry experience. Prizes, certificates, and special awards were given to winners and participants alike.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to the competition’s organizers and our partners, including TESDA Palawan, Solane LPG, the HR Office, and the City GSO, for providing this incredible platform for our students to showcase their skills,” added Principal Nunala.
